One of hubster’s favourite joints,
and finally I get to have a try at it! Restaurant Char Siew Yoong is one of
those places that are really off the beaten track, its closest landmark would probably
be behind PGRM building in Cheras. It is famous for its char siew (bbq pork)
and siew yoke (roasted pork belly). Char Siew Yoong is like your typical kopitiam –
noisy and crowded, you need to overlook that for the great food that is about
to follow.

The siew yoke for me was just
as nice, though hubster is a loyal fan of the char siew and that is already the
ultimate best for him. You know sometimes when you eat roasted pork some parts
of the skin are crunchy, but others are not and are just rubbery. No such thing
in Char Siew Yoong. Every piece, every bite of the siew yoke had a crunchy and
crispy skin to it. The meat again had just enough fat sandwiched between the
lean to make the meat juicy and not dry. Probably one of the best siew
yoke I have eaten in KL. A thumbs up from me.
The rice was just ordinary for
me. But another good thing about Char Siew Yoong is also they have soup, not
just the ordinary soup like those that come with your chicken rice but the REAL
kind of soup like the ones you boil at home. We ordered the old cucumber soup with pork bones, which came piping hot and was quite tasty. Lastly came the
lettuce, we ordered a small, but the portion that came was quite big.
The bill came to about RM 40
there about, probably because we ordered the sides like the soup and one additional take away, but if you
just go for the char siew and siew yoke rice per person probably would come to less than RM10.
